MILAN / मिलन

‘You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore. But let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love; Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone, though they quiver with the same music.

And stand together yet not too near together; For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.’

^Excerpts from Kahlil Gibrans’ On Marriage

We look around us and see how easily things are blended where one or both lose their characteristics to become ‘one’- a seemingly normal but a severely stereotyped way of looking at Unions.

Referencing the words of Kahlil Gibran, our collection Milan/ मिलन enquires into foundations built on individuality, through different elements coming together to play their own part in absolute synergy; creating an effect greater than the sum of its parts.

For this inspiration, we look around us. Inspiring from nature’s free flowing roots of trees, densely intertwined yet each finding their path. Inspiring from man-made bridges and their geometry creating balanced structures through repetition, connecting definite beginnings and ends.

We look at familiar forms and shapes coming together, thereby creating patterns for appliqués, hand-embroideries and for the silhouettes of our clothing.
